And ended here in Denver, Colorado.
US285 is a gorgeous highway that winds through the high country on a southernly route but you probably don't know that it continues on to Sanderson Texas, 830 miles away. It's an incredible route to ride. It goes through such diverse landscape that will just take your breath away. There are rugged gorges, desert wilderness, lush farm lands, high mountain meadows, stunning mountain vistas as well as such diverse wildlife (elk, deer, prong horn, jack rabbits, vultures, rattlesnakes and so on). I saw a working steam locomotive, some Amish horse and buggies (yes, there are Amis in Colorado). Not to mention some of the oldest Spanish settlements in North America. There were ghost towns galore. There were oil fields and orchards (not together). And the list goes on. I had the hardest time taking pictures on this trip. The vistas were just incredible but to try and pick a spot to photograph was just impossible. There just wasn't any way to capture it so I didn't. Oh I did take a few pictures of interesting sights along the way but if you really want to experience what I did, you really need to try it yourself. |
